Alfredo Jaar – The way it is. An Aesthetics of Resistance

In cooperation with the Berlinische Galerie and the Alte Nationalgalerie, the Neue Gesellschaft für Bildende Kunst (NGBK) is showing the first retrospective exhibition in Germany of the internationally acclaimed artist Alfredo Jaar (*1956 / Santiago de Chile). The artist, who lives in New York, received a grant from the DAAD and spent some time in Berlin 20 years ago (1991). He made a name for himself in Germany with some spectacular individual projects – for instance, an DAAD/NGBK presentation in the Pergamon Museum (1992) or his participation at the documenta (twice, in 1987 and 2002).

The exhibition is part of the program of the Berlin Art Week.

BETWEEN WALLS AND WINDOWS – Architektur und Ideologie at Haus der Kulturen der Welt

ikono presents “BETWEEN WALLS AND WINDOWS – Architektur und Ideologie”, an exhibition at Haus der Kulturen der Welt, as a selection of Berlin Art Week 2012. The project places the local history of the former congress hall in a new global context and casts a spotlight on the Haus der Kulturen der Welt as a sculpture. Curator Valerie Smith presents ten new site-specific productions by international renowned artists and architects, which turn the interior and outdoor spaces of the building into stages that question all that “architecture” can be.
