Don’t Label Me – Artists as Cultural Ambassadors

Posted March 16th, 2013 under Arab World, Contemporary Art, Talks, Videos

How are nationality and ethnicity used to label artists? Exhibiting artists from Tea with Nefertiti, Bassem Yousri and Xenia Nikolskaya, as well as Doha-based artist and cartoonist Khalid Albaih speak about the times they served (willingly or unwillingly) as representatives of their countries.

This video comes from the Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art which has gathered quite a few fine videos over on Youtube which you can also watch in the playlist of the talk above.

The museum currently hosts The Global Art Forum which brings together a diverse line-up of participants, including artists, curators, musicians, strategists, thinkers, and writers for two days of live talks and performances in Doha (March 17-18). We sent two of our best crew members over there and tell you more later.

Image: The Polish Ambassador is a beat machine from the future. Hailing simultaneously from the far reaches of other dimensional Universes and… Oakland, California, this dude drops his own unique blend of electro-funked, glitch-tweaked, wobble-freaked breakbeats that will have you dropping that bottom like it was 92…..3092, that is.
