Ana Maria Gomes - Stretching
The ikono On Air Festival is showing Stretching (2012), an experimental video by Franco-Portuguese artist Ana Maria Gomes.

A wrestler fights against himself. It focuses on a wrestler’s scenic research. He is fighting on his own, mimicking imaginary impacts from an absent contestant. It becomes a strange choreography in which the wrestler acts as an acrobat performing meaningless gestures. The music was written by American drone metal band Sunn O))) with the agreement of Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson. (Album Monoliths & Dimensions, track Alice).

Bio

Ana Maria Gomes, born in 1982 in France, lives and works in Paris. She graduated from Fresnoy in 2008, after studying at the School of Decorative Arts in Paris and at the Beaux Arts in Lyon. Her works come in the form of installations, videos and photographs. They have been shown in exhibitions and festivals in France and abroad (Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature (Paris), Jeu de Paume (Paris), Cinémathèque française (Paris), festival Hors-Pistes au Centre Pompidou (Paris), festival de Clermont-Ferrand (France), festival de Locarno (Switzerland), festival de Kassel (Germany) etc.)
Her work highlights moments where fiction creeps into reality. She thus focuses on people who have a strong tendency to fictionalize their existence, using amateur archive and dreams of yesteryear in order to confront present times ‘s mundane reality. Today’s disillusionment becomes matter to better highlight our own paradoxes in humorous fashion.

Installation vidéo composée des 8 vidéos :
Azedine 40sec. On off 2min. Le tunnel boucle. De nuit 3min. Square 3min.
Périphérique 4min. Grille 20sec.
